Get started with a test account

Great that you want to try Octany! Here's our guide for how to get started with a test account and how to make transactions in the test environment.

The test account is in a completely separate technical environment, which means that when you're ready to start using Octany for real, you'll need to create a new account.

Create an account for the test environment

Contact [email protected] to have a test account created for you.

Activate payment methods

Go to Admin

Go to Settings

Then go to Payment methods

Activate payment methods for testing

This activates all payment methods for test payments 🎉

The next step is to create your products.

Create products

Go to Products

Create new product

Choose which type of product you want to create

Here we choose to create a new product for monthly donors

The product is pre-filled with default values. Here you can change all fields and rename and reprice the product

Adding products to your website

Choose the product you want to add, click the three dots, and then Add to website

This opens the view where you can copy the code, which you then paste onto your website

Making test payments

You don't need to add Octany to a website to make test payments - instead we can take advantage of Octany's donation links.

Here you choose the product you want to test, click the three dots, and then "Donation link"

This opens Octany's widget in a standalone flow where you can make payments

After choosing an amount and a payment method, our modal appears for the rest of the donation flow.

The company name has been blurred out in these example images

Fill in name and email address and accept the terms.

Since the test account sends real emails (just like a real Octany account), it's important that you provide an email address you have access to.

A tip is to use your own email address, or if you want to test with multiple transactions, you can add + and something before the @ in your email address to create variants of your email address that still arrive in your inbox.

For example: [email protected]

Payments with Card

Test card number:

4242 4242 4242 4242

Expiry: 04/42

CVC: 424

Payments with Direct Debit

Click Choose bank

Choose any bank.

Here we've already entered a personal identity number in the test account, which lets us retrieve the test person's bank accounts. In this case there's only one, but normally there are several accounts your donors can choose from.

Click Continue.

Wait a few seconds - it will be automatically approved without Mobile BankID.

Normally the donor would need to sign with Mobile BankID here, but since we're in the test environment we just wait a few seconds instead.

Payments with Swish

Wait a few seconds and it will automatically go through.

Normally the donor would need to open Swish on their phone here, but since we're in the test environment we just wait a few seconds instead.

Payments with Invoice

Fill in the information in the donation flow, such as Address and reference, and how you want the invoice delivered.

When the invoice is created, Octany creates an invoice in your Fortnox account with all the details, following your invoice template as set up in Fortnox. But since we're in the test environment, this doesn't actually happen - though you now see the invoice flow from start to finish for your customers or donors.

Much more to explore

There's a lot more you can do in the test account, so feel free to look around.
